Helen Houston of “Scotish Blethers” presents the life of St Andrew—patron saint of Scotland.

St Andrews Day is celebrated in Scotland on 30 November.  Join Helen from Scottish Blethers to find out just why St Andrew has been celebrated in Scotland for well over 1000 years. Helen will explore his life, his work and all the things that made him such an impressive character, not just for Scotland, but for many people of the Christian faith.

How did the relics of St. Andrew find their way to Scotland? Why is the saltire (an x-shaped crucifix) the on the flag of Scotland? And how did a small fishing settlement tucked away in a small corner of Scotland become a major centre of religion and education?  In this presentation, Helen will address these questions as well as consider the influence the patron saint has in the present day in Scotland.

This is a live presentation via Zoom, if you would like to join Helen please email scottishbletherspodcast@gmail.com and the link will be sent to you on Friday evening before the event.
