Anna Savino is an American expat originally from Napa, California who found her home in another one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world, Piemonte in Italy. Originally Anna came to teach English straight out of college and found a job in this unknown place called Saluzzo, a tiny medieval village at the base of the Alps. Times were rough! She spent weeks trying to find a wifi signal with no luck and could not communicate with anyone in the village. From California, she did not even own a pair of boots or bring a parka and struggled with the frigid temps, fog and typically reserved personalities of the Piedmontese.

Just as Anna was about to give up on living the real life in Italy, she discovered its beauty as she started speaking the language, making friends (with cars) and seeing everything bloom in the Spring. She found her way and the beauty of the wine country in Langhe nearby, drew her in. There were no guide books or blogs focusing solely on this beautiful gem of Piemonte and it is here where the light bulb went off! Being an expat and venturing off on one’s own, normal processes just take much longer. It took years for Anna to get licenses, permits, wine certifications, experience in the wine field while working at a world famous Barolo winery. She spent years seeking out the best experiences for visitors. She finally was able to open her travel planning business, Italianna Food & Wine Tours, for wine and food lovers and share her discoveries with like-minded travellers.

Besides her obsession for studying wine, she obviously loves to travel and learn about different cultures. She is fascinated by the differences that each region in Italy has to offer and can not wait to check off every region in Italy by visiting and tasting the food and wine in each. Her love for culture and sports even took her to study Psychology at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill during her academic years. Now she is married to a Piemontese DOCG man with two young children who keep her constantly busy! Her current project is a Barolo Wine Club where she can promote small family run wineries by selecting unique and hard to find labels for wine club members and ship them around the world. This is accompanied by wine stories, wine maker videos and technical sheets so she can continue to educate and reveal the beauty of the local geography, delicacies and intriguing stories of wine families.
